Dance Gallery is proud to announce that three students have been selected to dance in Joffrey Ballet’s annual performance of “The Nutcracker.”
Grace Boyd, 11, and Isabella Boyd, 10 attend Sutherland Grammar School; and Anna Allen, 12, is a student at St. Christina School. Anna and Isabella will be playing the roles of snow tree angels while Grace will be playing party scene girl.
“We’re so proud to have these three girls represent Dance Gallery in ‘The Nutcracker’ this year,” said Marylee Sinopoli. “It is exciting to see the girls participate again in this traditional classic production. We work hard to help the girls develop solid dance training at an early age, which helps them with their auditions and provides skills to continue nourishing their love of dance.”
Throughout the years, Dance Gallery has had over 75 students selected to dance in the Joffrey Ballet’s production of “The Nutcracker.”
“The Nutcracker” is performed December 6 through December 28, 2013 at the Auditorium Theater at Roosevelt University. Matinee and evening performances are scheduled. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com.
Chicago Shakespeare in the Park is coming to our neighborhood! A free professional production of Shakespeare’s “The Comedy of Errors” will be performed in Ridge Park on Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22 at 6:30 p.m.
On play day, a specially equipped truck will roll into Ridge Park, a stage will unfold, and a company of professional actors will share the delight of Shakespeare with families and neighbors.
“A Comedy of Errors” is a wildly entertaining tale of a man and his servant landing in a foreign land. Searching for their long-lost twin brothers. Everywhere they go, strangers insist that they’re old friends. Mistaken identities abound, but in the end, chaos gives way to clarity in this comedy filled with mayhem and madness.
This popular Shakespeare comedy is adapted and staged by veteran Chicago Shakespeare director David H. Bell. Touring to neighborhoods across Chicago, including Ridge Park in Beverly, the free Shakespeare performances activate neighborhood parks, attracting families, breaking down barriers to arts participation and encouraging young family members to participate in Chicago’s Summer of Learning program.
Check out the Chicago Shakespeare Theater website for more info.
Dance Gallery is proud to help spread awareness about the Chicago Shakespeare in the Park program and encourages everyone to come out and enjoy a summer night of entertainment.

Dance Gallery will offer musical theatre classes for dancers ages 10 – 16 as part of the 2013 six-week summer teen and adult session.
The new musical theatre classes will be held on Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. Dancers do not need to have prior dance or theatre experience. Kelly (Rowe) Schweitzer, who has been an instructor at Dance Gallery for over six years and has extensive dance training in tap, jazz, ballet hip hop and musical theatre, will teach the class.
“This is the first time we have offered a class focusing on musical theatre and I think it adds a new dimension of dance that complements our core dance areas of study,” said Marylee Sinopoli, owner of Dance Gallery.
Students will learn elements of musical theatre style training – singing, dancing and acting. Each class will work on dance, musical theater style choreography and vocal training, as well as acting skills including improvisation games and exercises. There will be a final workshop culmination performance for friends and family at the end of the summer session.
“Many of our students are involved in local or school musical theatre productions, so our musical theatre class is a place where students can cultivate their skills and develop a deeper interest in musical theatre productions,” added Sinopoli.
Other summer offerings will include hip-hop, modern, ballet, tap, jazz, ballroom and toning/weights for teens and adults. The 6-week summer session will begin June 24. To register for musical theater or other summer classes, please contact the studio at 773-445-8910. Online registration is also available at www.dancegallerychicago.com.
